Johanne Senécal was born and raised in Verdun, a bilingual community on the island of Montreal. She has a son who is an engineer and two grandchildren both at McGill.

She graduated in Literature and Sciences at Collège Marguerite- Bourgeoys in Westmount and later on, became a Shopping Centre manager responsible for negotiating leases, publicity and marketing. She went on to work in Tremblant for Intrawest as their commercial leasing person and enjoyed the combination of business life and outdoor sports and living the dream.

Working in Ottawa was a very important chapter in her life: As political staff to Federal Ministers, she was committed to serve her party and country, networked and consequently, made friends across Canada who became her extended family.

She is presently teaching French in Montreal and volunteering as a tutor for a Ukrainian family who recently arrived in Montreal.
