Sophie's Gift: The Sacred Heart Philanthropy Project, with Angelo Gallo

The Sacred Heart School of Montreal

The Sacred Heart School of Montreal is an independent school dedicated to providing transformative education rooted in exceptional academics, personal growth, and global citizenship. In September 2024, the School became fully independent from government subsidies, allowing it to extend its mission to more young women, both locally and internationally, free from Quebec's English Language Education Eligibility requirements. Sacred Heart is committed to forming women of faith, intellect, and action, young leaders prepared to make a meaningful difference in the world.

Sophie's Gift: The Sacred Heart Philanthropy Project

A powerful example of Sacred Heart's vision in action is Sophie's Gift: The Sacred Heart Philanthropy Project, formerly known as the Youth Philanthropist Initiative. Embedded in the Grade 10 Religion, Culture and Citizenship course, students explore Catholic Social Teaching and social justice alongside Quebec's CCQ curriculum. In this academic and humanitarian context, they develop research, critical thinking, and leadership skills while examining real issues affecting their communities.

Sophie’s Gift culminates in a multi-disciplinary philanthropy initiative where students assess community needs and direct grant funding to charitable organizations. Through this hands-on experience, they learn not only about justice, but how to live it.

Angelo Gallo, Teacher & Department Head of Religion

Angelo has been a teacher at The Sacred Heart School of Montreal since 2006, where he currently teaches Social Science and Religion, Culture and Civilization in Quebec courses. He also serves as Department Head of the Religion Department and oversees the school's Campus Ministry and Social Action Programs.

Beyond the classroom, Angelo is actively involved in school sports, coaching Soccer, Futsal, and Flag Football. He currently chairs the school's Sacred Heart Commission on Goals (SHCOG) Self Study Report Committee and has participated in numerous Sacred Heart Network professional development activities, including the SHCOG Visiting Team at Regis School in Houston, Keepers of the Flame, Roots with Wings, and The Sacred Heart History Project.

Angelo holds a B.A. in History and Theology from Concordia University, as well as a B.Ed. and M.A. in Educational Leadership from McGill University. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Don Bosco Youth Leadership Centre (D.B.Y.L.C.) in Rivières-des-Prairies.

On a personal note, Angelo is a proud father to two athletic daughters, one of whom is currently a Grade 10 student at Sacred Heart.
