W.I. Volunteer Accompaniment Service

ABOVAS is a non-profit offering an accompanied-transport service to West Island residents in vulnerable situation to get to their medical or non-medical appointments. Our volunteers help the person from their house to the car, drive them, go in with them, wait for them, and drive them back home. Our volunteers do more than merely drive, they offer reassurance, guidance, and a steady hand to navigate everything from medical facilities to grocery store aisles.

ABOVAS is actively looking for new volunteer companions. If you wish to help your community, have a reliable car, have a few hours per week to spare, and is patient, empathetic and love to help, volunteering for ABOVAS would fit you to a tee. We have the CAUSE… and you have the EFFECT!’ Contact us at 514-694-3838 info@abovas.com or for more information feel free to visit our website at www.abovas.com

Denise Hupé, ABOVAS Executive Director

Born and raised in the West Island, volunteering and helping others was instilled in her by her parents at a very young age. In 2015, when the opportunity arose to work for a non-profit helping West Islanders in vulnerable situations, Denise knew that this was the perfect fit for her.

Under Denise's guidance, ABOVAS services have made a significant difference for seniors and other West Islanders in vulnerable situations by providing accompanied transport to medical and essential errands. Her vision of accompanied transport goes far beyond simply driving: ABOVAS volunteers, guided by her leadership, walk clients into waiting rooms, accompany them through grocery aisles, and offer compassionate support throughout the journey. This holistic approach promotes safety, dignity, and human connection.

Denise’s contributions have been recognized both locally and nationally. She was honored through the TD Thanks you campaign in 2023, and in June 2025 she received the King Charles III Coronation Medal, celebrating and acknowledging her outstanding service to the West Island community.

Deeply rooted in the West Island, Denise continues to champion volunteerism, inclusion, and compassion by helping different organisations by offering her time as a volunteer for their different events.
